New Balance Cricket Bats!

#1: The TC Range

New Balance TC Cricket Bat- As described and reviewed in this Blog

Professional User: Joe Root- Exemplifies the type of batter suited to this bat, a well-rounded innovative player with a huge array of shots, also, Aaron Finch- A white ball machine with brutal power and timing. The differences between these two batters highlight the versatility of this bat from the lofted drive to the reverse scoop. This bat is well suited to any batter from the innovative shotmaker to the vicious power hitter.

Strengths: Lightweight and highly manoeuvrable due to the concaving. Very Versatile, this is a bat suited to every playstyle, this is shown by the different styles in the professional users.

Weaknesses: Not as forgiving due to the concaving. Its versatility also means it doesn't make any shots easier or harder, so not a wise choice if you have strong strengths and weaknesses as a batter.

Playing style: Designed to be as balanced as possible, one of the best all-round bats on the market. Suited to the Innovative or powerful, especially for batters with good hand speed, but you need to have a well-rounded game with no serious weaknesses.

Summary: Mid-sweet spot is excellent for dominating all around the ground, combined with concaving, making the bat light and manoeuvrable. Although not very forgiving.

#2: The DC Range

New Balance DC Cricket Bat- As described and reviewed in this Blog

Professional User: Currently the most iconic user of the DC range is Steve Smith, who is a unique batter to say the least, so that tells us basically nothing about what technique and style is suited to this bat.

Strengths: Low middle makes front foot shots easier, especially boundary hitting. This also gives greater access to the ball when playing on a low pitch with no bounce, so if this is your local club, this could be a good option. The lack of concaving gives a nice full profile which makes it very forgiving giving you a chance is you don't hit it from the middle ( don't worry, we all do it😊).

Weaknesses: A low middle gives you a little less reaction time when playing the short ball, especially the hook and pull. And the lack of concaving does make this bat slightly heavier than its counterparts with the same performance from the middle.

Playing style: Good for players with a strong front foot game, and suits a player who relies on timing or raw power, not bat speed to smash boundaries.

Summary: A low sweet spot makes front-foot shots easier. Very forgiving but slightly heavier due to not much concaving.

#3: The Heritage Range

New Balance Heritage+ Cricket Bat- As described and reviewed in this Blog

Professional User: N/A

Strengths: Designed for the classical batter and is similar to the TC range with its mid-range sweet spot and designed for all-round strokeplay. However, it has much less concaving, giving a full profile and making it far more forgiving when you don't get it out of the middle of the bat.

Weaknesses: Less concaving means this bat has a bit more weight in comparison to bats with the same performance out of the middle.

Playing style: Designed for a classical batter, someone who likes to use timing and placement to score. Not suited for a batter who likes to use hand speed to get the ball over the ropes given the extra weight.

Summary: Well-rounded and suitable for anyone who can score all around the ground whether front or back foot. Very forgiving, but it comes with extra weight as a result.

#4: The Burn Range

New Balance Burn Cricket Bat- As described and reviewed in this Blog

Professional User: N/A

Strengths: Lightweight Pickup, weights available between 2lb 7oz and 2lb 9oz this gives maneuverability and helps with power from bat speed. Coupled with a very full profile which makes the bat very forgiving. A slightly higher middle gives you an extra split second playing the short ball which is vital if you are facing some rapid bowling!

Weaknesses: There are two sides to every coin, the higher middle makes it more tricky to dominate on the front foot and the lightweight construction combined with the full profile means that the DC lacks the weight for effortless boundary hitting on the lower grades or for those players who are less powerful. Buying a higher grade willow will really emphasise the strengths of this bat and compensate for any weaknesses.

Playing style: Forgiving but needs bat speed or premium willow. Well suited to a power hitter with good bat speed like Jos Buttler or MS Dhoni. Think about the pitches and bowlers you face too, if you are facing medium pacers on a slow low wicket every week, this isn't the best choice on the list.

Summary: Lightweight bat built for manoeuvrability and bat speed. The higher middle is more suited to bouncy pitches and short-pitched bowling. Very forgiving but can lack the weight for consistent and effortless 6 hitting.
